Is Time Really On Your Side?

Is time really on your side when it comes to your wedding day?  There are so many tasks to accomplish in a very short amount time.  Everything from hair and make-up to photographers, catering, dances, the exit...  We often hear: "the wedding can't begin without the bride and/or groom," everyone will wait.  This justifies tardiness, taking more time than you were given for your task, scheduling too much in too small of a time frame, etc., which frequently creates anxiety, stress, and sometimes worse due to schedule delays.  Oprah Winfrey said, "You can have it all. Just not all at one time."  Through planning and organization you can have it all in the amount of time you have.

Capturing the images of the wedding day encompasses your entire day.  The photographer usually arrives early to photograph the bride and bride's maids getting ready and follows the wedding party all the way through to the exit of the bride and groom.  It is true that your photographer intends to be with you on average for 10 hours, following you and taking photos.  Despite following you throughout the day, the list of photographs to capture can sometimes create delays in the wedding day time line.  To assist you in planning your day, here are images and an approximate length of time to allow for them.

  • Bride and bride's maid getting ready: 30-60 minutes
  • Details (Wedding dress, shoes, etc.): 15 minutes
  • Mother helping bride with gown: 10 minutes
  • Portrait of the Bride: 15 minutes
  • Bridal Party: 15 minutes
  • Father of bride first look: 10 minutes
  • Groom's first look: 10 minutes
  • Groom's Party: 15 minutes
  • Entire wedding party: 20 minutes
  • Ceremony:  30-60 minutes
  • Family photos: 30 minutes
  • Reception details: 20 minutes
  • Wedding Party Intro's: 10 minutes
  • First dance: 10 minutes
  • Father-Daughter dance: 10 minutes
  • Groom-Mother dance: 10 minutes
  • Toasts: 10-20 minutes
  • Cake cutting: 10 minutes
  • Bouquet Toss: 15 minutes
  • Garter Toss: 15 minutes
  • Anniversary dance: 10 minutes
  • Shoe game: 10 minutes
  • Signature shot of Bride & Groom: 30-45 minutes
  • Exit (i.e. sparkler): 15 minutes

Use these to help with your time line planning, and you should be able to have it all and stay on schedule.  Time is on your side with a little management.
